BOOK PROJECT
URBAN CAVE
Andrea Star Reese began photographing the people living beneath New York City in the Bat Cave tunnel community while she was a student. What began as a documentary project evolved through years of looking, photographing, and conversation into a deeply human portrait of a community often defined from the outside as homeless. The photographs instead reveal resilience, friendship, dignity, and the remarkable homes its residents created before the community was ultimately dispersed.
My Contribution: Mentorship, editorial collaboration, photo editing, sequencing, book development, and foreword. I worked closely with Reese as the project evolved, helping discover and shape the story within the photographs.
