GRAVITY IS STRONGER HERE
Over five years, Phylliss B. Dooney documented Halea Brown and her Southern family in Greenville, Mississippi, creating an intimate portrait of identity, poverty, resilience, and belonging. Paired with Jardine Libaire’s documentary poems, the work explores addiction, family, faith, loyalty, and freedom while also considering the evolving relationship between photographer and subject.
My Contribution: Mentorship, photo editing, and sequencing. I worked with Dooney to shape an intimate and complex body of work into a cohesive book.
